The Elegance of Venetian Plaster
The original technique consisted of several hand-applied base layers of rendering plaster to the wall, with the final few layers creating a decorative effect. These decorative layers, were of a plaster, made of powdered or ground marble or limestone, thinly applied to create a wall finish that would have the visual depth, richness, cool touch, and a natural elegance of stone or marble. Over time, the lime crystalized in reaction to the air (carbonation), the plaster returned to it's original state of stone, creating a wall finish that was stronger than any painted finish. Traditional Italian Technique and ExperienceWe at GWF, have adopted techniques from ancient artisans, that have been developed to give a multitude of finishes, from suede to marble to stone. It is through the artisan's imagination and refinement of wall finishing technique that truly wonderful effects are created. These effects can be used in many styles such as Old World, Contemporary, Tuscan, Traditional, etc. Authentic, Natural Lime Plaster (Not a Faux Finish)There are many acrylic-based products available now at your local paint store...However, don't be fooled...Italian Lime Plasters are not faux finishes . These imitation products use simple techniques, and require no special training. While they and other faux finishes attempt to mimic appearance of lime and stone, they fall far short of the rich, natural beauty of natural lime plaster.
